DESCRIPTION:

A Programmer Analyst I position is available in VARI’s Program for Biospecimen Science working under Dr. Scott Jewell, Director of the Program for Biospecimen Science.  This position will support research at VARI by supporting existing software as well as developing new applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, and perform application analysis functions required to develop new applications or to install and implement software purchased from outside vendors
  • Review and analyze existing applications for efficiency and effectiveness and to ensure that output meets the needs of user departments
  • Document program development, logic, coding, and corrections
  • Update IT-related knowledge continually which would include maintaining contact with peers at similar organizations, obtaining membership in appropriate societies, attending conferences, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, a related field or equivalent.
  • Two to three years of work experience in information technology including development of web-based applications, experience with ASP.Net preferred
  • Programming experience in C#, VB or Java
  • Experience with JavaScript/AJAX
  • Experience integrating applications utilizing web services, experience with WCF preferred
  • Experience with database design and development utilizing MS SQL, Oracle or DB2
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Integration Services are a plus
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming are a plus
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Windows environment
  • Knowledge of a UNIX or Linux environment is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft based application development tools
